In 2009, Ohio had 68,748 non-business bankruptcy filings. Throughout 2010, Ohio had an unemployment rate hovering around 10 percent. However, even though the there has been a national upswing in bankruptcy filings, bankruptcies are actually down across northwest Ohio’s 21 counties. There were 6,735 filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo in the first nine months of 2010, down 1 percent from 6,808 filings for the same period in 2009.
