Many of these filings were motivated by three main concerns (a.k.a. “The Big Three”): the recession, unemployment and the housing crisis. Florida’s unemployment rate hit 12 percent in November 2010, which was well above the national average. Also, in 2010, one in every 267 Florida households received a foreclosure notice. And, according to predictions by Moody’s Analytics, by 2012 median housing prices in Palm Beach County and Broward County will plummet 60 percent since their peak in 2005.
